Drosophila melanogasterGenAge entry for Ire1 (Drosophila melanogaster)

Gene information (ID: 2148)

Symbol
Ire1
Name
Inositol-requiring enzyme-1
Organism
Drosophila melanogaster (AnAge)

Potential relevance to longevity and/or ageing

Observations
Whole body depletion of Ire1 using RNA interference reduced the lifespan of flies and negated the lifespan extending effects of dietary restriction. This effect was found to be tissue specific, Ire1 expression in the midgut is required for starvation tolerance and lifespan extension.
Lifespan Effect
Decrease
Genetic Manipulation
RNA interference
Longevity Category
Pro-Longevity
