- Study Design
- The mtDNA of ten bama centenarians were sequenced and seven novel variations were identified. 313 individuals(113 samples in the 90-110 y, 75 between 80-89 y and 125 between 10-79 y) were involved for the analysis of 26 variations in mtDNA D-loop and several serum parameters.
- Conclusions
- mt146 was associated with longevity. The mt146T had a significantly lower frequency while mt146C occurred at a significantly higher frequency in the 90–110 years old group than that in the two younger (the 80–89 and 10–79 years old) groups (P < 0.005). In the 90-110 y cohort, the levels of systolic blood pressure, the total cholesterol and low density lipoprotein were significantly higher in the mt146C carriers than in the mt146T carriers (P < 0.05), as well as the levels of triglyceride(P < 0.01). No significant differences were found in these parameters between the two younger age groups.
