Caenorhabditis elegansGenAge entry for xbp-1 (Caenorhabditis elegans)

Gene information (ID: 1844)

Symbol
xbp-1
Name
Protein XBP-1
Organism
Caenorhabditis elegans (AnAge)

Potential relevance to longevity and/or ageing

Observations
Ubiquitous expression of xbp-1s did not extend lifespan, despite increasing ER stress resistance. Neuronal xbp-1s transgenic animals had a surprising and significant extension of longevity (20-30%). Expression in the intestine also resulted in an increase longevity by 20%, whereas expression in the muscle cells shortened lifespan by 25%.
