Caenorhabditis elegansGenAge entry for pha-4 (Caenorhabditis elegans)

Gene information (ID: 503)

Symbol
pha-4
Name
defective PHArynx development
Organism
Caenorhabditis elegans (AnAge)
Known functions and activities
Pharynx development

Potential relevance to longevity and/or ageing

Observations
PHA-4 may play a role in the life-extending effects of dietary restriction. RNA interference decreased lifespan of wild-type worms, but not of daf-2 mutants or of animals with defective electron transport chains. Overexpression slightly increased longevity.

    Observations
RNAi of pha-4 in adult animals led to a slightly shortened mean lifespan (13%).
% change in avg or median lifespan
    Average lifespan is 13% lower.
