Histones such as H2AFX are part of the nucleosome, which consists of DNA wrapped around histones. H2AFX has been involved in DNA repair together with, among others, NBN and TP53 [1004]. H2AFX-null mice were growth retarded and showed signs of genomic instability [1004]. Whether H2AFX plays a role in human ageing remains to be determined.
