- Name
- Ataxia telangiectasia mutated homolog (human)
- Organism
- Mus musculus (AnAge)
- Known functions and activities
- DNA repair and cell cycle control
- Observations
- Cells show slow growth in culture and premature senescence, telomeres are extensively shortened in multiple tissues of ATM(-/-) mice. There is increased tumor incidence in ATM(-/-) mice.
- Lifespan Effect
- Not Recorded

- Observations
- Atm-deficient mice are retarded in growth, do not produce mature sperm, and exhibit severe defects in T cell maturation while going on to develop thymomas.
- Lifespan Effect
- Decrease

- Deletion

- Observations
- Mice homozygous for the disrupted Atm allele displayed growth retardation, neurologic dysfunction, male and female infertility secondary to the absence of mature gametes, defects in T lymphocyte maturation, and extreme sensitivity to gamma-irradiation. The majority of animals developed malignant thymic lymphomas between 2 and 4 months of age.
