Drosophila melanogasterGenAge entry for Trxr-1 (Drosophila melanogaster)

Gene information (ID: 327)

Symbol
Trxr-1
Aliases
2151; anon-WO03040301.185; anon-WO03040301.187; CG215
Name
Thioredoxin reductase-1
Organism
Drosophila melanogaster (AnAge)
Known functions and activities
Redox regulation and oxidative defence

Potential relevance to longevity and/or ageing

Observations
Overexpression of glutathione reductase (GSR) in transgenic flies resulted in increased lifespan and oxidative stress resistance, but only under hyperoxia. Glutathione reductase is now recognized to be performed by thioredoxin reductase-1 (Trxr-1) since Drosophila do not have a GSR gene.
Lifespan Effect
Increase
Genetic Manipulation
Overexpression
Longevity Category
Pro-Longevity
